Felted Witch Hats
Designed in Australia, handmade in Nepal from New Zealand sourced wool.
Adapted from Little Everest, which we work with in collaboration to design and make new handmade felt products:
Hand felting is an age-old craft still practiced in family-run workshops in the Kathmandu Valley. It's here, nestled under the Himalayan Mountain Range, that these works are crafted from only natural New Zealand sheep wool, skill and hard work.
I personally design, make and refine original samples with a close team of talented felt workers. The talented sample team then remake my prototype in a way that it can be made reliably to a plan, in steps, by a series of small specialist production teams.
A robust water felted base is first made using specifically dyed and blended fleece. When that is dry, the base shape is defined more accurately by needle sculpting. This is how our beautiful star garlands and the bases of our cute mushroom stashers are made. The details are then needled on, stitchwork done and needle felt finished. This is the process by which our Rodney rats are made! Additionally, for some products, the final details are needle felted on locally in Australia, which is the way our mushroom stashers are finished up. Our wonderful witch hats are created using water felted sheets over a formed base to make their unique shape. There will always be charming individual variations of colour, shape and features.
It is a time-intensive and painstaking careful work that we value highly - we hope you do as well. We are so happy to be able to deliver something that is handmade, responsibly and sustainably, without using synthetic fabrics. If needed, they can be washed by scrunching, (not scrubbing) in warm water, reshaping, and air-drying.
Everyone involved recieves fair wages, all holidays and support. Our active, happy workshop south of Kathmandu is commited to improvement with international ISO management compliance and this family-run enterprise has the support of a wide extended family business network operating and living locally.
They do amazing work handcrafting our designs so accurately. I hope they bring many smiles into your life!
